5 Year Plan

The Kingdom Brass Youth Initiative was proposed early in 2007. Discussions and planning took place in the six months following that initial proposal, looking at the best way to structure, organise, and allow for the growth of the new organisation.

The newly formed committee came up with an initial 5 year development plan.

Year one of the KBYI will run from October 2007 to August 2008 and be in three phases :-

1. Start - Initial consultation with schools and parents to generate interest in the proposal. Gauging interest in the project and planning what instrumentation and commitment of time is needed.

2. Source - Introducing young people to the instruments through small workshops. Organising regular tuition within small groups and resolving any startup problems.

3. Stabilise - Regular meetings of the association committee to ensure everything is running smoothly. Organising initial concert performances, and preparing for year two.

Formation of the Development Band will take place late in year one, introducing all the players to the concept of performing in larger groups.

Year two of the KBYI will run from October 2008 to August 2009. This phase will begin with a second intake of young people, allowing those from year one to advance from an elementary to an intermediate stage. This Academy system of advancement will be the model used from year two onwards.

The Development Band will progress into the full Youth Band, participating as much as possible in the various youth events throughout Scotland. The second year intake will progress into the Development Band.

Year three of the KBYI will run from October 2009 to August 2010. This phase will see a third intake take place, developing the Academy into the final three tiered system of elementary, intermediate and advanced, with two youth bands in place.

Years four and five will see the model of the previous three years continued, with the formation of a Kingdom Brass 'B' Band in the fifth year.
