Aims & Aspirations

The aims of the Kingdom Brass Youth Initiative were set out in our initial document detailing our 5-year plan in early 2007.

Our main aim, as outlined in our constitution, is "To advance the education of young people in music". We'll achieve this by aiming "To provide facilities, instruments, and such necessary equipment as to facilitate the learning and playing of music, particularly that pertaining to brass."

As a committee we've looked at how we can provide the highest standard of youth development possible. We simply want to be the best there is, that's our ultimate aim.

We've all looked back into our own personal development as players, brainstormed what went wrong, listed what we wished we had had back then, and planned what we can do to give today's young musicians the ideal opportunity to develop.

Our "top five" deliverables are -

  • Enjoyment - We aim to deliver the most enjoyable learning experience, with varied activities delivered by experienced and enthusiastic tutors. The experience should be something these young people enjoy, and something they want to continue doing week after week.
  • Opportunity - We aim to provide opportunities on two levels for everyone involved in the KBYI. Firstly, opportunities for these young people to develop skills which will be beneficial for future life. We also aim to provide opportunities to perform at events in unique locations and venues, giving them experiences they would not normally encounter.
  • Equipment - We aim to give these young people the highest quality of equipment which is needed to allow them do develop fully. Everything from the highest quality of student instruments available, through to personal copies of all tutor books and music, right down to individual stands for home rehearsal.
  • Facilities - We aim to carry out these activities in facilities which are ideal for this purpose. Warm and clean, with areas for group and individual tuition. Ample storage for equipment will be provided, and everything which is needed will be easily at hand.
  • Technology - We aim to have in place a modern framework for supplying information on the KBYI, as well as allowing information to flow between parents, children and tutors. Internet, email and mobile messaging will all be used extensively to ensure that information is available at any time. Plasma screen TV will be available for audiovisual presentation, with use of CD and DVD players during and to complement the tuition.
